I have an opportunity to play some disc golf this Friday during the day near Springfield MA. Anyone familiar with any of these courses? Which one is the best to play? None of them have guides listed on Disc Golf Course Review.
HCC (Holyoke Community College) or
Northampton State Hospital or
Crane Hill (I played there in June, nice course wooded with good fairways, not much maintenance though).
Thanks

HCC has a tourney coming up on the 28th....... a cool course to play if there's no baseball game going on. Holes 6 & 7 cross over the infield.
Northampton is a great course if it's been mowed recently. Hole #13 is something like 700ft mostly in a farm field. If it's not mowed you'll spend an hour on that hole looking for your disc. #14 has the same issue.
I haven't played Crane Hill

There is also Highlands of Conway-Very Cool course-I heard it's in good shape-not overgrown. I played it once-liked it more than HCC, or Northampton. Looking forward to going back. There is 1 hole at HCC-hole 13? that is one of my favorites of all time.

This one? Road is all OB and the basket is across and up the hill.

One of my friends played Highlands of Conway in June and said compared to J-Park the course was not well maintained. Bad enough to make it hard to play. It's also 45 minutes from Springfield the others are 1/2 hour and closer. I'll save Conway for another day.

Yes Mich Jeff-The one I almost aced at the Dubs Tourney.
I'm probably playing HCC on the 28th.
Ven-I would say check out Northhampton. Very cool course. Some short technical holes, the big field holes. Nice mix of holes.

Re: Courses Near Springfield MA
I played Highlands of Conway two weekends ago and I didn't think that it wasn't badly maintained at all. I enjoyed the course a whole lot because it was a real test of control vs. power, and I had to do a lot of thinking about where and how I wanted the disc to land to avoid rolling away down the slopes (parallel and spinning into the slope nestling into rocks and trees, not angled and spinning away from the slope on bare patches) This was after I rattled the chains on the second hole with my approach, only to watch in horror as my disk rolled eighty feet away from the hole down a steep wooded hill into a boulder pile.
Trust me, I'm a science teacher. I know the meaning of fear.

I am going to be in this area Saturday. Is anybody up for playing any of these courses? This will be my last disc golf for a while (conference in australia, then school starts), so I might try to play a couple of them.

Only because I live in Eastern NY and HCC, Holyoke and Crane Hill are closer to me than Hyzer Creek. My plans for Fri & Sat are still up in the air. I may be able to play early Saturday AM. Will post here when I know.
Australia sounds cool. You can always bring a few discs (including some for newbie friends) and play object disc golf. I suggest not using trees as targets because they damage the discs and it is hard to verify if you hit it from far away. I prefer to pick a spot to land on: under that car, or tree branch, or on the picnic table etc.
Re: Courses Near Springfield MA
well...I'm heading to Holyoke to take advantage of tax-free weekend, and I may unfortunately be stuck in disgusting lines in the morning. I'm definitely free in the afternoon, but probably no earlier than 11.

Re: Courses Near Springfield MA
I played 18 holes at Crane Hill in Wilbraham MA yesterday. I teamed up with 2 friendly locals which is almost essential here since there is no course map, and many of the tee signs have fallen apart. The course is in the same rough shape it was last summer, but a local has petitoned the town so they can begin to take better care of it. This is a nice woodsy course with a few holes in the open. Some great holes. It's about an hour and a half from my house, off the Wilbraham, Belchertown, Ludlow exit of the MA pike.

I am off tomorrow to attend my 40th High School Reunion and play a round at Crane Hill DGC in Wilbraham MA. Looking for some locals to join me afternoon or whenever, as there is still no good map of the redesigned course.
