On May 12th, DisCap is on the Town Board's agenda to discuss adding more holes.
Presentation to be donw by Kevin R and Jasan L. Thank you gentleman for presenting
our club's proposal for adding 9 more holes.
and they also will NOT be building a bathroom this year.

How did this decision come about? I read this site faithfully and never saw any discussion or heard of any open meetings on this proposed expansion.

Previous "open discussions" have not gone well. The "Too many cooks in the kitchen" syndrome.

What "open discussions"? As I said previously, I have never heard anything on this subject until this morning.
Who made the decision? Closed committee?

The previous open discussion I was referring to was back when the course was expanded to 27 holes(along with the loss of 5 holes in the woods by hole 1. It's buried here: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=311

As far as the Town meeting on May 12th, I'm actually just learning about it now too.

Mel, in answer to your question.
No committee meetings were held.
consensus was used to make the decision to expand.
We see little downside to this proposal.
We will be asking folks for their input, what would you like to see?
Thank you for asking

Looks like I need to clear my schedule on May 12th. (2 days before the MKDGC nonetheless)

Glad to see Greg pushing things to fruition. I'm all for helping Kevin and others finish J-Park.

I answered you in a PM. If I knew it was such a hot subject, I would of posted my reply on the open forum. How could you reach consensus if many didn't even know about it?
In a nutshell, I prefer a more democratic way for making important decisions.

My Company put up a portion of that money (thanks to John Ryan at Powmat). I hope the $1200 will get the upgrade project going, I would love to see new baskets at J and another 9 holes. Remember everyone, Discap is a 501(c)(3) so the donations are tax deductible and sometimes you can get a company match.

There has been casual discussion about the expansion for some time. Jasan has volunteered to raise funds and make the proposal to the town and asked for the clubs support by using our NFP status to solicit funds. Earl made a donation to the club and asked that it be used for basket upgrade.

Mel just curious what is the downside of expansion? Not really an important decision made by us. Just a no brainer. Local player wants upgrade baskets and expand J is willing to put in the time to do it through proper channels and was just seeking our support.

It seems that there is a misunderstanding that I am against the J-Park expansion. I am not against it.

I was just totally surprised that I never heard of it before this morning. Why no forum discussions about it? I am just not a fan of undemocratic decision making. The democratic process is slow and sloppy, but... It keeps more people (members) happy in the long run.

I love J-Park and so do the friends that play with me there. It's our favorite Course.
My only concern is with upkeep. More baskets, more upkeep. It is always hard relying on just volunteer workers to keep the course in good shape. The expansion will make it even harder.

Mel you need to come hang out with the locals more often. J Park expansion has been talked about for years. What was undemocratic in your opinion?

Is the thought (for the expansion) to use the land past 18s basket?

Yes, the land to the north of fairway 18 and all the way to 21. Also behind basket 17.
Currently only planning to add "old" hole 18 to the expansion, on the west side of the park
That would reconnect the flow from 27 to 1.
Take a walk up to what we hope becomes our best water hole! Not sure what the town board
will let us do, but it would be sweet!

That's awesome Greg. Such good land back there especially with the creek.

Having old 18 back would be great too and definitely would improve the overall flow if played after current 27, which I'm guessing might become new 35.
