People have been complaining for years about hole 9 and how it's a par 3 that you can't 2. No way to reach it from the tee pad. Craig Cutler, Eric McCabe, Scott Howard, etc, etc all told me to make the pin reachable by cutting a hole in the sky so the pros can park the pin and get their 2's.
Ok, it's time to make it into a true par 3 that people can 2. This means destruction of forest vegetation. That means slaughtering trees. Lots of trees. Sometime this year, maybe before Battle 11, there will be destruction of standing timber. Good for disc golf, bad for the pines, good for people who heat their houses with cellulose and lignin. News coming later about the day the trees must die, but I expect a good turnout of people who want to watch big trees submit to the authority of gravity and chain saws.

Re: hole 9
Not going to happen. Hole 9 is already a par 4 by the stats....
....look at the stats page. Hole 9, going on 14 years old, is the oldest disc golf hole in the capital district and has been thrown just under 1000000000 times. In that time, like 4 people have 2'd it. But in tournaments more pros get 4+ than 3, if you add up all the 4's and 5's and 6's. And am's get way worse. It plays like a par 4 in that people don't try to park the pin, just set up for the 3. If the way to play a hole is to set up for the 3, it's a par 4. Same with hole 12 at CPS. Everybody tries for the 3, because the 2 is almost impossible. That's the definition of a par 4.
OK, hole 9 at Hyzer is now officially a par 4 and Hyzer Creek is officially a par 67 course.
Put that in the books. Not going to cut a tree or change a thing but the par.

No. Par 63 again. Hole 9 is par 3.
Today I moved the back of the tee pad over 9 inches to aim up better with the new line left of the big hemlock

Re: hole 9
I am extremely pleased to say that yesterday, I removed all the high branches from the big hemlock that are in the new fairway. I didn't know how I would do it, some of those branches were 50 feet up there. I have no ladder that tall, cherry pickers cost too much, pole saws are way too short, and I ain't climbing 50 feet up a tree trunk with no branches.
I was able to tie a string on an adjustable wrench and throw it over the branches, use the string to pull a rope up, and used that rope to pull a bigger rope. Tied that rope to the truck and pulled the branches down one by one. The branches were all dead so they broke off easily. There were about 5 I had to do. That left me with a few little twigs sticking out which I got with my shotgun. Birdshot works best.

Re: hole 9
Ok tomorrow I will make a video because there are a few twigs that need shot down.
I am extremely glad to say that this morning, I moved the tee pad over by 16 inches to aim between the new (optional) fairway and the old one. You play the old fairway, it's par 3.5 as always. Conservative and not much risk, easy 3, but not much chance of a 2. You play the new fairway, you play the risk and reward fairway, and go for the 2.

Hole 4 is 95% stump free and grass is growing.

Hole 9 is a different hole if you play the new route. You can still play the old route.

Re: hole 9
I'm doing the stats for the battle. I'm using only the 900+ rated players to figure out the score spread for each hole. There were 30 players rated 900+ which is 60 rounds.
In the Battle, hole 9 was deuced 4 times. By:
Gary Crowley
Danny White
Mike Delisle Jr.
Dan Hastings (in the round he got 57, not the 49 round).

Re: hole 9
Gary and I were on the same card when we hit our deuces.
Gary had about a 40 footer and mine was about 30 feet.
I took the outside route but was able to throw it higher so it had more time to make the turn.
