2014 CPS Dubs Thursday @ 5:15

Post by kenjiac » Wed Mar 05, 2014 11:11 pm

Starts Thursday March 20th Ends Thursday September 18th Season End BBQ Saturday September TBD week or 2 after end
430ish start on Whites moving towards 5:30 in following weeks as time allows. Pretty much same as last year.
1st Thursday of each month I will tweak the format. Putters Only, 3 Disc, Best Score, Alternate Lie Best Score, 666, and a tbd.

A/B/C Pools for pairings as decided by me.
Best shot format (1st Thursday of every month will be an alternate dubs format)

$6 entry
$1 optional Ace Pot
$1 optional Birdie Bank
$5 from each players goes to weekly payouts, $1 goes toward season points payouts and the party at the end of the season.
In Sept we'll have a league party and BBQ.

Ace Pot is $25 to start.
Just want to clarify how ace pot will be paid out.
$0-$99 pay in full
$100-$199 pay all but $25
$200-$299 all but $50
Caps @ $300 to start a new pot. Capped pot pays all but any less than $50 in the 2nd pot.
Birdie Bank will be back. 3 out of 4 from the blues, 4 out of 5 from the whites
Unhit funds in Ace Pot (less $50 carryover for next season) & Birdie Bank will be used for prizes/games @ the BBQ

Points Series Breakdown
DiscGolfScene will again be the place for the scores and points leaderboard.

2 points for playing.
1 point for every player you beat.
**Remember that ties will only be broken for payout positions and if teams decided to split the $$ they're also agreeing to split the points. **
Bonus Points
** You have to pay the optional $1 to be eligible for these bonus points **
5 bonus points for players that hit the Birdie Bank. Added to that nights point total.
10 bonus points for players that hit an ace. Added to season total.

Your best 18 weeks will count toward your points total.

CPS Rules
- OB is all asphalt roads except path on 11, and path/road on holes 15 & 16. Main road still O/B; Creek Bed/Water on #5 & #10 are OB marked by string/posts, Water on #15 & #16 is OB. Over bank by water on 18.
- NO 2 meter penalty. Mark your lie below the disc. 3 min limit on disc retrieval.
- All PDGA courtesy and stance rules apply.

Cali Rules for odd # of players
- "A" player gets one extra shot per hole and MUST use second shot.
- "B" player gets one extra shot per hole(two for par 4s) and choice of the best shot.
- "C" players will not be made to play Cali but may if they choose and will follow "B" player rules

Stoppage of play due to weather.
Rain is not a reason to stop play, suck it up Buttercup!! We have NEVER cancelled dubs CPS or J.
However, if thunder/lightning is present we need to do the following:
1. Once thunder is heard, be on the lookout for lightning.
2. Once the first lighning flash is seen, if close, mark your lie and proceed quickly to the kiosk.(Make sure everyone notes the strokes they've taken on the incomplete hole.) We'll wait it out until it's gone or we run out of daylight needed to finish.
3. If we cannot continue and the majority(50% or more) of teams have COMPLETED 12 holes we will consider it a full round and payout normally.
4. If the majority has NOT COMPLETED 12 holes we will refund OR players may donate their entry fee accordingly. All ace/birdie $$ will stay in their respective pools.
FYI we have never had to have in incomplete round these are just in case rules.

What about discs lost in the snow?
Maybe Spring is waiting to show up when our season starts.
My concern is paying the Ace Pot from the whites. Perhaps just two thirds of the pot since the shot is only two thirds
of a blue shot. And percentage payout based on weeks played. 25% payout for each week you've played. Benefits weekly regulars and makes it harder for
someone to randomly show up and clean out the Ace Pot.
Thanks Kenji for taking on the joys of cat herding the CPS Dubs peoples! :D
Anyone have any ideas for streamlining our operation, please, bring them up!

lol, why are you trying to complicate a voluntary buy in? I'm guessing at the end of the night if someone hits an ace, the last thing Kenji wants to do is have to calculate some kind of percentage matrix to figure out what someone's ace was actually worth.

Honestly, the flat payout for an ace pot is supposed to benefit every player equally regardless of attendance. They point system is what benefits those that are weekly participants. We can't make every aspect of dubs league favor the people who don't work regular hours or can actually get out at 4pm on a Thursday and alienate those who can't.

The Ace Pot is collected to be paid out. I have no problem paying out an ace from the whites. And I have the same payout procedure from last year to leave some funds in the pot if it gets hit when its over $100. Aces are infrequent enough that I don't have a problem paying out an out of towner if they get lucky enough. I have more issues with some old guy that's made the most ace money out of all the locals taking it again. ;) Stop hitting those chains let someone else make some money.:)

I am considering changing 15 & 16 to tournament OB. Thoughts?

Is tournament OB anything over the road line, or just the pavement?

On 15, on or over the 1st road. Basically an extension of the pond.

On 16, Ob is just the pavement and the pond.

Tournament OB on 15 and 16 sounds good to me. Unless covered by snow
and on the Ace debate, just trying to make sure a regular donator gets
a good chance to keep the money

Exactly why I pay out the ace pot on an ace from the whites.

What are principals behind OBs?
Safety is one.
Marking natural hazards like water is another.
Creating a more interesting play on otherwise unvaried terrain is another.

Does the upper path OB on 16 add anything to an already difficult par 3? It seems to me that it just makes the hole more difficult for marginal players.

When's the last time any of the 'aye' votes had an issue with the upper path ob on 16?

It seems to me it's the rich looking to get richer. :character-oldtimer:

mark, the upper path on 16 is such an obvious OB to me. it's a well defined obstacle in the middle of a fairway that may or may not be avoided. even a strong thrower risks hitting a branch and dropping onto the path, or throwing too low, hitting the hillside and rolling back to the path. if you are concerned about not safely crossing it then the obvious choice is to lay up to the end of the grass. it's a very common play in golf. not sure you can pass the hazard, play it safe. think you can, then take the risk. it's your typical risk/reward scenario.

Jzip, Glad to hear you are on the heal.

As for 16 OB. Not sure pavement is an obstacle, a feature maybe. The hill and trees are an obstacles. Are so many people shooting that much under par? Is making something harder making it better? I'd rather see the focus be on better pads and maybe some more holes. It may be one of the most used courses in NY State.

Thx. Hoping i'll be ready to start throwing in about a month or 2.

mstryker wrote:As for 16 OB. Not sure pavement is an obstacle, a feature maybe. The hill and trees are an obstacles

Just cause something isn't in the path of a flying disc doesn't exclude it from being an obstacle. Something that may lay where a disc may land would also be considered an obstacle. Hyzer Creek is an obstacle. A bunker in ball golf is an obstacle too. It's something that you have to try and work your game around. If your disc can land there then it's an obstacle.

mstryker wrote:Are so many people shooting that much under par? Is making something harder making it better? I'd rather see the focus be on better pads and maybe some more holes. It may be one of the most used courses in NY State.

Has nothing to do with shooting under par. Par is irrelevant. Heck, call hole 16 a par 4 for all it matters. All that matters is your final stroke count. It's a fun obstacle that adds risk off the tee box.
And it in no way has any impact on any other course improvements. Adopting this path as OB requires no effort. We will still continue putting in the new tee boxes. That's an entirely seperate matter.
Besides, this is the tournament layout, so why not get used to playing it that way all the time to make yourself better prepared come tourney time.

Ok, them's my 2 1/2 cents on this matter. I'm prob not throwing a disc until April or May sometime anyhow so I won,t even be present as dubz kicks off for the season. Best of luck to all. Look forward to seeing y'all out on the links.
