Check this out!

http://www.cliftonpark.org/townhall/par ... eyPark.pdf

new park in Clifton Park on 146 between Waite Rd. and Wing Rd. 151 acres! check it out on google maps.

"Based on input from residents, the town plans to develop a passive recreation facility that is consistent with the rural character of western Clifton Park and celebrates the agricultural heritage of the town."

sounds like its still in the early stages of development!

I've been looking at that area since I moved here. Currently there's signs in the area that say Clifton Park Open Space. I figured that was some sort of protected woodlands that they'd never develop. If it's the same area, there's woods and field areas that'd work for disc golf.

both the town of clifton park and ct male are clients of mine. in fact, ct male is about 1/4 mile from my house as the crow (or disc) flies. i have to be careful about approaching either party due to my professional relationship with them, but i can look into this and see if there is an appropriate angle to pursue. although, it seems as if the public input opportunities were last year, so we may have missed the boat on this.

I didn't work personally with CT Male on the Global Foundries project up in Malta, but my company/project had dealings with them and from what I remember hearing from my project manager, civil team, etc., they were very good to work with.

Wow 151 acres of passive parkland? What a waste. I'm all for passive parks but that's a HUGE passive park. Our passive park is 26 acres and is has a ton of nice quiet trails, tranquil places to read a book or have a picnic, etc. etc. Big passive parks just become great places for hoodlums to do whatever their favored hoodlum shenanigans may be. I would think you could convince the parks people that the inclusion of an active park amenity such as a disc golf course would create a nice balance of active and passive park users that would be able to easily co-exist in the park.

One piece of advice...I would not develop the course until the land is dedicated as parkland by the state. A city can take a parcel of land and call it a "park" but if the state does not dedicate the land then the city can turn around a decide to sell the "park" whenever they want. Considering the decision makers change after each election, this is always a real possibility.

Been passing by Garnsey Park a bit more lately to see the traffic levels at this new park.
Never more than a couple cars there.

151 acres.
Passive recreational facility.
It's got disc golf written all over it.

I want to get out there soon and walk it.

I'm looking to do just that.
Here's the grassy field on the roadway that'll be great to showcase the sport to people passing by. The kiosk on the left is the official entrance to the park.

There is very heavy traffic in evening rush hour. Mel used to crew in Alplaus and it took lots of extra time to cross the Northway traffic and then again on 146 north. Other routes were worse. Looks good otherwise. Will the locals think disc golf is compatible with their idea of passive use?

Finally walked some of this park today and it has serious potential. Looks like they're mowing some large fields and the wooded areas are not thick at all. The only issue I see is the thick brush near the front of the property. Could be work to get a loop started near the parking lot.

Too bad April's monthly is spoken for. Be a good month to sneak in some pirate golf without getting in the way of summer park traffic and also before a lot of the trees/grass/shrubs get overgrown.
